As what they say, fashion isn’t about looking backward but it’s all about looking forward but that’s not always true. Although fashion evolves quickly and if you’re not updated, you would be outdated. However, having an outdated look sometimes can be fashionable and chic and that is Vintage Fashion. The 1930’s would be one of the most glamorous decades in the fashion history. Women back then tried to dress up even when just strolling around the park or going to see a movie. Elegance and sophistication was part of every woman’s vocabulary. Elegant chiffon dresses embellished with laces, high waist skirts with feminine silhouettes, tops with puffed shoulders adorned with ruffles and gowns with plunging necklines were staple for every woman’s closet before. However, in today’s modern time you can’t wear all those pieces every day without people staring and gazing up on you. So, I’m here to tell you how to wear Vintage Fashion but with a modern twist.
First, select vintage pieces that are on trend now. Whether it is a wide-leg pant or a dress with plunging neckline you wear something that is on trend so you wouldn’t look like you’re wearing a costume. Research the current trends and if you have a vintage piece that resembles or channels that certain trend it may be a pattern, cut or silhouette, wear it. Second, wear something that compliments your body type. The right fit can make wonders to your body. Choose vintage apparel that fits your body. If you have a huge waist wear an A-line dress and if you want to accentuate your curves sport an hour-glass dress or a dress with nipped waist. But if you really want to wear something but doesn’t fit right, have it altered so it would fit you like a glove. Third, make sure the quality is good. Because vintage clothing might be more than 80 years old, you just have to make sure that the quality of the fabric and clothing is in a good condition.
Never comprise style with quality. Some aged clothes are itchy and can irritate your skin so make sure the quality is good. Fourth, mix it with your other clothes. Never wear a head-to-toe vintage outfit because you’d look like you have travelled using the time machine. Wear them with your H&M top or Zara denim shorts, mix and match them but make sure you’d still look good and stylish. And the most important thing, just be yourself. Never wear something that doesn’t fit your personality, style and character. Wear something that will make you feel comfortable and confident. Because no matter how fancy the clothing is but if you’re not confident when wearing it, it would look forced and antiquated. Just tell yourself, you look good and you’ll rock it.
